What can I expect during pediatrics appointments?

During pediatric visits at Hope & Esperanza Community Health Center, friendly staff members greet you and your child. They often complete the following:

Vital signs check

Providers assess your child’s weight, height, and growth patterns. They also check their pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs.

Medical history review

Your Hope & Esperanza Community Health Center specialist reviews your child’s medical history and discusses their symptoms. They ask about their lifestyle and developmental milestones and address any questions or concerns.

Physical examination

During a physical examination, your Hope & Esperanza Community Health Center specialist evaluates your child’s eyes, ears, throat, heartbeat, reflexes, and breathing. They offer pelvic exams for teenage girls as needed and provide vision and hearing screenings for all children.

Diagnostic testing

If your child is sick, experiences new or unusual symptoms, gets injured, or has disease risk factors, their provider might recommend diagnostic tests. Examples include nasal or throat swabs, asthma or allergy tests, heart function testing, blood tests, urine tests, X-rays, or other imaging procedures.

Treatment

If your child has an illness or disease, their provider may recommend treatment. Examples include rest and fluids, diet and other lifestyle changes, over-the-counter medicines, prescription medications, injections, inhalers, wound care, fracture care, or other care to help your child recover or stay healthy.

The Hope & Esperanza Community Health Center team also offers immunizations. They can refer you to specialists as needed for complex medical problems.
